An American Innovative Cast and Wrought Iron Swivel Seat Office Chair, c. 1850-1858, stenciled American Chair Co., Troy, N.Y., the balloon back with padded arms on pierced acanthine supports, the round seat on a wooden base, the swivel support with steel banding and four outswept legs ending in casters, with old red velvet upholstery. E1000-1500 Note: Best known for its reclining seats for railroad cars, the American Chair Co. (1829-1858) also made various innovative chair models for domestic use, using steel sprigs for support and decoration. A chair similar to the example above can be found in the collection at the New York State Museum.
