  • Provenance: Provenance: Mart Hope Plantation, Baton Rouge, Louisiana~ Note: A friend of Jean Joseph Vaudechamp, Adolph Rinck arrived in New Orleans from France during the winter of 1840 This charming portrait of a handsome young "Creole Gentleman" was painted early in Rinck's tenure in the city. Known for his fine quality of draftsmanship and attention to jewelry, Rinck painted the lengthy gold chain of the watch fob hanging around the sitter's neck and into his pocket.
