After Carlo Cignani (Bolognese, 1628-1719), "Joseph and Potiphar's Wife", oil on canvas, unsigned, with paper label en verso reading "Restored Dec. 1937 B.R. Foster (?)", stretcher size 291/4 in. x 36 in., painted oval image 28 in. x 35 in., in a period gilded and gessoed frame. E1500-2500 Note: The 1678-80 model for this early 19th c. copy is in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, Dresden (inv. no. 387). An 18th c. copy in the collection of the Duke of Devonshire, Chatsworth, served as a model for at least one other copy. The present example differs in form, being oval rather than octagonal.
