After Clark Mills (1815-1883), General Andrew Jackson Equestrian Figure, patinated metal, marked Patented May 15, 1855 and Cornelius & Baker, Philadelphia, height 24 in., width 20 in., depth 8 in. E1200- 1800 Provenance: Descended in a Prominent New Orleans Family. Note: The famous equestrian statue, cast from captured British cannon, depicts Andrew Jackson in the act of reviewing his troops prior to the Battle of New Orleans. It was unveiled in 1853 in Lafayette Square across from the White House on the anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans. A second monument was placed at Jackson Square in New Orleans in 1856, and a third in Nashville in 1880. Of the few Cornelius & Baker sculptures extant, one is in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery. Louisiana Historical Quarterly, vol. 3, #4; James G.
