Description:
After George Romney (English, 1734-1802), "Charles Duke of Richmond", Published According to Act of Parliament Dec. 21st, 1778, 1778, engraved by James Watson (Irish, 1740-1790), sight 14 1/2 in. x 11 1/4 in. Note: Charles Lennox (English 1735-1806) was one of the few members of the English aristocracy to support the Independence of the American Colonies. In 1778 he led a motion in the House of Lords for the withdrawal of British troops in America. The painting on which this engraving was based is in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
