After John James Audubon (American, 1785-1851), "Black-Billed Cuckoo", No. 7, Plate XXXII, hand-colored engraving, Havell edition, from Birds of America, the elephant folio paper watermarked "J. Whatman/ Turkey Mill", sheet size 25 in. x 37 1/2 in.

- Notes: Note: These black-billed cuckoos were painted in 1822 when Audubon was in Louisiana. "I have not met with this species in the State of Louisiana more than half a dozen times " he wrote; "it being so scarce a species in Louisiana, I have honoured it by placing a pair on a branch of Magnolia in bloom..."
