After Marie Adrien Persac (American/Louisiana, 1827-1873), Plantations on the Mississippi River from Natchez to New Orleans, 1858., copyright 1931, Pelican Book Shop, Inc., printed by Rand McNally & Company, showing the divisions of land with owners' names, vignettes of New Orleans, Baton Rouge and plantations, the decorated border composed of cotton plants and sugar cane, height 53 in., width 31 in. Provenance: Used by famed New Orleans photographer Clarence John Laughlin to identify plantations in Southern Louisiana. Note: The very rare earlier version of this map was published by Norman and engraved by J.H. Colton, New York. The publisher had planned to make a series of three maps showing plantations from New Orleans all the way to Memphis, but this was the only one completed.
