Alberta Kinsey (American/New Orleans, 1875-1968), 'Clementine Hunter's Cabin, Melrose Plantation, Louisiana', oil on canvas affixed to wood, signed lower right, sight 17.5in. x 21 in. Note: During one of her many trips to Melrose Plantation in Natchitoches to visit with Miss Cammie Henry, the New Orleans artist Alberta Kinsey left behind her oil paints and brushes. Clementine Hunter, a servant at Melrose Plantation, found the art supplies and with Francois Mignon's encouragement began to experiment with painting, thus beginning her illustrious career. On another stay at Melrose, Kinsey painted this picturesque view of Clementine Hunter's cabin.
