Alexandre Nicolaevich Benois (Russian, 1870-1960), "Boudoir of Empress Maria in Gatchina", watercolor on paper, mounted to paperboard, signed and dated "1924" lower left, inscribed "Salon de L'Imperatrice Maria Alexandrovna a Gatchina", 12.5in. x 16.5in., This watercolor was painted by Benois during the early 1920's when as a keeper of the Hermitage, he had an important role in the preservation of cultural monuments. Gatchina is a country palace on the outskirts of St. Petersburg.
