Alfred L. Boisseau (French/New Orleans, b. 1823), Portrait of a Young Woman in a Pink Hat, oil on canvas, signed and dated 1849 lower right sight 28.5in. x 24.5in., in an ornate giltwood frame. E3000/5000 Note: Born in Paris, Alfred Boisseau studied art in Paris and exhibited at the Paris Salon. In the mid-1840s, Boisseau traveled to New Orleans where he received recognition as a portrait and genre painter. An itinerant artist, Boisseau also traveled and painted in Cleveland, New York and Montreal. He returned to New Orleans periodically in the late 1840s and painted several portraits. At that time, he probably painted the beautifully rendered Portrait of Young Woman. The New Orleans Museum of Art collection includes Boisseau's famous painting of Marche d'Indiens de la Louisiane.
