Description:

American Federal Mahogany Work Table, early 19th c., top with turreted reeded corners, graduated drawers with fitted interiors, beehive standards, reeded saber legs, brass capped paw feet, casters, h. 30 3/4 in., w. 22 1/4 in., d. 18 1/2 in. Note: A nearly identical work table made c. 1815 in Massachusetts is illustrated in Classical Savannah, fig. 102 as part of an exhibition at the Telfair Museum of Art. The overall form and sophisticated carvings on both pieces, including the rounded corners and the upswept reeded legs attached to a rectangular base, are features often seen on tables manufactured in eastern Massachusetts.
