Lot 93
An American Gothic Mahogany Tall Case Clock, c. 1845, probably New York, three pyramidal finials set about a lancet pediment supported by a pair of columns, glazed silvered dial over a slender central case with a mirrored lancet door on a further paneled base with lancet details, later paper label to interior indicates Charles Rogers of New York as the maker, striking gong movement, height 106 in., width 20 in., depth 11 1/2 in Note: American Gothic style wall and mantle clocks with spring driven movements are well documented. The tall case form, such as that here, is exceedingly rare. This clock has finials, door and case elements similar to those on a tall clock bearing the stencil label cabinet maker J. Bartlett, Cherry Street, New York in the Weiss Collection. Reference: Shaffer.
