American School, 1839 , "The President and Endymion, June 15th, 1815" and "The Chesapeake and Shannon, June 1st, 1813", 2 oils on canvas, both initialed "I.F." and dated lower right, each titled on stretcher, titled and information about battles attached en verso, each 15 in. x 21 in., framed alike. (2 pcs.) Note: Renowned naval commander Stephen Decatur (1779-1820) was commodore of the U.S.S. President when it engaged in battle in January of 1815 with the British West Indies Squadron at the blockaded Port of New York. Decatur was later honored with an eponymous street in the French Quarter of New Orleans in 1870.
