  • Notes: Note: George Washington Vanderbilt II was the grandson of renowned American entrepreneur Cornelius Vanderbilt. He constructed the now-famous mansion The Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina, and collected the work of such illustrious artists as Pierre Auguste Renoir, John Singer Sargent, and James Abbott McNeill Whistler, the latter two of which also painted full-scale portraits of Vanderbilt.
