- Notes: Note: Union Major General Daniel Butterfield was wounded at Gettysburg and Gaines Mill, and was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his service at Gaines Mill. A special bugle call he composed for his brigade is thought to possibly be the origination of "Taps". He was also notorious, as Hooker's chief of staff, for maintaining a headquarters described as a "combination of a bar and a brothel". Butterfield is buried in one of the most ornate monuments of the West Point Cemetery.
