An Allan Adler (1917-2003) Hammered Sterling Silver Flatware Service, Los Angeles, c. 1950, marked 'Allan Adler OMC Hand-Hammered Sterling' comprising 12 each of dessert forks, teaspoons, dinner knives and forks, 8 each of salad forks, butter spreaders and cream soup spoons, and 9 assorted items including serving utensils, sauce ladle, cheese knife and sugar shell (81 pcs.), approx. 147 troy ozs. E8000-12000 Provenance: Purchased in Dallas, Texas, c. 1955 by a Louisiana gentleman. Note: Allan Adler (1917-2003) learned his craft from his renowned father-in-law, seventh generation silversmith, Porter Blanchard. In 1940, Adler opened his own shop on Hollywood Boulevard to sell the clean-lined silver flatware and hollowware he designed. Known as 'silversmith to the stars', his clients included, among others, Errol Flynn, Orson Welles, Montgomery Clift, Paul Newman, Steven Spielberg, Cher and Candice Bergen.
