An American Aesthetic Carved Walnut Breakfront Bookcase, c. 1870, possibly Daniel Pabst, Philadelphia, with arched foliate scrolled backsplash, spindled gallery, glazed doors, all fitted with decorative cut brass hinges, the stiles with stylized leaf carving, the conforming base with drawers on scrolled feet, height 70 in., width 66 in., depth 16 in. E3500-4500 Note: Preferring walnut, Pabst often worked in the Renaissance Revival and Arts and Crafts style promoted by Charles Eastlake. Reference: a cabinet attributed to Pabst with an arched top similar to this example is illustrated in David Hanks, Nineteenth Century Furniture, Innovation, Revival and Reform, p 43, from in the Wurts House collection, Philadelphia.
