An American Aesthetic Inlaid and Gilt-Incised Rosewood Side Chair, late 19th c., attributed to Herter Brothers, New York, the back with pierced elliptical fretwork framing an inlaid panel of swagged leaves and blossoms, incised stiles and seat rail, turned legs, stretchers, retaining original finish, height 33 in.

  • Notes: Note: This chair is similar in form to a number of side chairs documented to the Herter firm, including a rosewood chair made for the Goodwin residence and at the Wadsworth Atheneum, an oak chair at the Vanderbilt Mansion, and a chair in a period photograph of the Red Room at the White House.
