An American Arts and Crafts Oak Tall Case Clock, c. 1905, bears partial label from "H.T. Cushman Mfg. Co., North Bennington, VT", striking gong movement with original wood and brass pendulum, supported on pyramid topped posts, x-form sides, wooden dial with brass numbers, height 79 in., width 19 3/4 in., depth 15 3/4 in. Note: Henry Theodore Cushman (1844-1922), a merchant and inventor from Bennington, VT, started selling corks and erasers at the age of 16. After successfully selling a wide variety of items including roller skates, pencil boxes and stationery supplies Cushman moved on to small furniture. In 1901 the company started selling the newly-popular Mission furniture.
