An American Carved, Gilded, and Bronze-Mounted Mahogany Sideboard, late 19th c., New York, the original green variegated marble top with a mirrored gallery supported by acanthus scrolls, the frieze with four drawers, above finely carved monopod supports, the back paneled and divided by pilasters, the whole on a molded plinth base, extensively mounted and retaining original gilt, height 54 in., width 84 in., depth 25 1/2 in E12000-18000 Note: The maple drawer interiors tightly secured by thread screws together with the design sophistication of this sideboard relate closely with top-tier New York Furniture makers such as Herter Brothers and the Pottier and Stymus firm. This high-style New York sideboard uses established English Regency elements on monumental scale. Lion monopod supports similar in pose and form to lot 476 are used on several Regency pier tables and sideboards illustrated in Margaret Jourdain, Regency Furniture, p. 63 fig. 122, 123, 126 and p. 85, fig. 202-203.
