Description:

An American Carved Rosewood Five-Piece Bedroom Suite, mid-19th c., New Orleans, of French Restauration influence, comprised of a half tester bed, an armoire, a dressing bureau, a washstand, and a bedside commode. E18000/25000 Note: Closely related by virtue of the panel construction and scroll feet to the well known suite at Gallier House 1132 Royal Street, New Orleans, which bears the original bill of sale from the shop of Prudent Mallard. See Eileen and Richard Dubrow, American Furniture of the Nineteenth Century, pg. 137 Provenance: Estate of Imelda Bourgeois Ruhlman. The Ruhlmans' purchase of 2336 St Charles Avenue inspired Mrs. Ruhlman to recreate a Creole interior appropriate to the historic landmark. Designed by the noted architect James Gallier, Jr., the house is one of the oldest in the Garden District. This bedroom suite is representative of the many beautiful period objects Mrs. Ruhlman assembled in her restoration.
