Description:

An American Carved Rosewood Tester Bed, mid-19th c., New Orleans, signed "C. Lee", the later molded ogee cornice of conforming design, on fluted tapered posts; scalloped, arched and paneled headboard with a massive shell and cabochon crest, pendant fruit and nuts, foliate scrolls, conforming low foot board and rails, height 114 in., length 73 in., width 66 in.

  • Notes: Note: Beds stamped "C. Lee" appear in the inventories of New Orleans furniture purveyors Calvin Chandler Simpson, John Yetter, and William Mc Cracken in the years leading to the Civil War.
