An American Chippendale Carved Birch Slant-Front Desk, late 18th c., New England, bail pulls marked "HJ" likely for Thomas Hands & William Jenkins, fall front opening to interior fitted with drawers and compartments, four graduated drawers below, ogee bracket feet, pine secondary wood, height 43 1/4 in., width 43 3/4 in., depth 21 1/2 in.
Provenance: Acquired from Four Corners East Antiques, VT, 1977.
Note: Between 1791 and 1797 to 1805 Thomas Hand and William Jenkins formed a partnership in the manufacture of "commode handles".
