An American Chippendale Carved Mahogany Open Armchair, c. 1760 and later, Philadelphia, the shaped C-scroll, acanthus, tassel, and shellcarved crest flanked by scrolled ears, acanthus and rosette-carved pierced vasiform splat flanked by fluted stiles with scroll arms, trapezoidal slip seat with shell carved apron, raised on acanthus- carved cabriole legs, ending in ball and claw feet. E3000-5000 Provenance: By descent within a distinguished Philadelphia family to the present owner. Related to Henry Pratt, Charles Frederick Mayer, William Wharton Fisher and George T. Lewis, this armchair was broughtSouth into Louisiana by family members in the middle of the twentiethcentury.
