An American Chippendale Carved Mahogany Open Armchair, c. 1760 and later, Philadelphia, the shaped C-scroll, acanthus, tassel, and shell carved crest flanked by scrolled ears, acanthus and rosette-carved pierced vasiform splat flanked by fluted stiles, scroll arms, trapezoidal slip seat with shell carved apron, raised on acanthus- carved cabriole legs, ending in ball and claw feet. E3000/5000 Provenance: By descent within a distinguished Philadelphia family to the present owner. Related to Henry Pratt, Charles Frederick Mayer, William Wharton Fisher and George T. Lewis, this armchair was brought South into Louisiana by family members in the middle of the twentieth century.
