An American Chippendale Carved Walnut Highboy, late 18th c., probably Southeastern Pennsylvania, one drawer bears two old estate/owner script labels, one inscribed "...given me by Edith L.D. Howard (sic)"; the upper case with molded cornice over a configuration of short and long drawers; lower case with a long drawer above three short drawers, highly figured drawer fronts; scalloped skirt, cabriole legs, claw and ball feet, height 74 1/8 in., width 41 3/4 in., depth 24 1/4 in. Note : The paper label indicates this highboy was given by an Edith L. D. Howard to the next steward of this early American piece. Ms. Howard, probably Mrs. Edith Lockwood Danielson Howard (1861-1953) of Providence, Rhode Island, was married to Mr. Elisha H. Howard (1856-1925), son of Rhode Island Governor Henry Howard (1826-1905). Her family is descended from Abraham Lockwood (1669-1747) of England."
