Lot 112
Description:
An American Classical Bronze-Mounted Mahogany Armoire, c. 1830, the molded cornice above a recessed arched frieze, paneled doors flanked by bronze-mounted tapered colonnettes, the interior with original belt of drawers, later shelves, massive melon carved brass ball feet, height 98 in., width 70 in., depth 28 in.
- Notes: Note: The massive scale, finely figured veneers, bronze collars and escutcheon, and brass feet and door molding on this armoire is not only indicative of a high style maker but also of grand setting that this armoire was probably originally intended for. A carved mahogany armoire in the Houmas House collection with arch frieze, columnar stiles, collared plinth terminals and melon legs very similar to those in this lot was sold by Neal Auction Company as lot 491 on May 17, 2003
