An American Classical Carved Mahogany Armchair, c. 1820, attributed to Thomas Whitecar, Philadelphia, pierced splats, reeded stiles, scrolled reeded arms, vasiform reeded supports, rounded seat rail, turned and tapered reeded legs.
- Notes: Note: The "amoeba" reticulation in the crest and splat, as well as the form of the stiles and legs, on this chair are very similar to those on a side chair made in 1809 by Thomas Whitecar (d. 1824) for the Front Parlor of Cedar Grove, the Paschall and Morris family home in Philadelphia, now administered by the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
