Lot 472
An American Classical Carved Mahogany Demilune Card Table, early 19th c., New York, attributed to John Budd, the highly figured top and skirt with inlaid tablet at center, spiral turned acanthus carved legs topped by paterae and ending in brass ferrules, height 30 in., width 36 in., depth 18 in. Note: With a Manhattan workshop on Fulton Street between William and Nassau Streets, John Budd (wc. 1817-1840) advertised in 1817 "Orders from southern ports immediately tended to, and all furniture warranted." Examples of his work appear in Charleston inventories. A games table held by Ginsburg and Levy labeled by Budd with legs identical to those on lot 472 is illustrated in McClelland, Duncan Phyfe and the English Regency 1795-1830.
