An American Classical Carved Mahogany Pedestal Cabinet, c. 1825-1835, probably Anthony Quervelle, Philadelphia, retaining original rectangular King of Prussia marble slab on an ogee frieze and scrolled pediment fitted with a drawer over a cabinet door with gothic molding flanked by bold scrolled stiles, trapezoidal plinth, demilune feet, the top and base both marked with registration number 93590-159, height 38 1/2 in., width 30 in., depth 18 1/2 in. E8000-12000 Provenance: By descent in the Luman Reed Family; Robert Smith Auction, Pleasant Valley, New York, 1966, where purchased by the collector. Note: A pedestal cabinet from the well-known Lee Anderson collection, which bears Quervelle's stamp, has a waisted case form, use of gothic d‚cor in the door, and lunette feet, similar to those on lot 306, shown here.
