Lot 481
An American Classical Carved Mahogany Sideboard, 19th c., each pedestal end with cove molded top, paneled drawer and cupboard flanked by "Egyptian" terms; lacks the superstructure; marble top center with drawer raised on conforming supports ending in block plinths, height 45 in., width 93 1/2 in., depth 29 in. Note: The use of distinctive "Egyptian" supports on this sideboard recalls those on a sideboard attributed to John Needles (Baltimore, 1786-1878) in the Colonial Williamsburg collection and a cylinder desk attributed to Joseph Barry (Philadelphia 1757-1838) in the Hollander collection. Barry did briefly established Baltimore warerooms in 1803, and some scholarship nods to Barry for pieces of this type.
