An American Classical Carved Mahogany Sofa, c. 1830, Philadelphia, the crest rail terminating in scrolled acanthus and gadrooning, rounded arms faced with shells, blocked uprights, molded rail, acanthus-carved and ring-turned ball feet, height 33 3/4 in., width 87 in., depth 25 in.
- Notes: Note: The arm supports with double shell terminals on this sofa are similar to those on a sofa bearing the stenciled label of Cook and Parkin illustrated in Boor. Philadelphia Empire Furniture, p. 378, fig. 234. A nearly identical sofa, also attributed to Cook and Parkin, was sold by Neal Auction Company as lot 1040, November 27, 2009.
