Lot 331
Description:
An American Classical Figured Mahogany Games Table, early 19th c., attributed to Duncan Phyfe, New York, banded foldover top, conforming skirt, tapered rectangular supports, trestle base connected by a medial stretcher, highly figured veneers throughout, casters, height 30 1/4 in., width 36 in., depth 18 in.
- Notes: Note: The bowed block embellishments on the trestle base of this table are nearly identical to those on a cheval mirror descended in the Manning family (Milford Plantation, South Carolina) attributed to Duncan Phyfe. The table offered here has laminated and saw cut layers at the turned corners of the skirt, a detail of fine craftsmanship seen in a card table attributed to Phyfe and descended in a New York family, recently discovered by antiquarian David Petrovsky. Reference: Northeast Auctions catalogue entries 1224 and 1226, April 3, 2005.
