Description:

An American Classical Mahogany Games Table, c. 1830, attributed to Cook and Parkin, Philadelphia, the rectilinear banded top above a torus-molded frieze bordered by gadrooning, columnar support raised on a faceted pedestal, the concave plinth resting on scrolled feet centered by discs, height 31 in., width 36 in., depth 18 in.

  • Notes: Note: The cabinet-making firm of Cook and Parkin produced exceptional furniture, most notably a pedestal sideboard after a design by Thomas Hope now in the Baltimore Museum of Fine Art. One feature found repeatedly on seating and tables by Cook and Parkin is the use of cylinder shapes, such as the support on the table here. The feet on the table are identical to those on a table illustrated in Boor, Philadelphia Empire Furniture, p. 222, fig. 95.
