Description:

An American Classical Mahogany Lyre-Form Music Cabinet, early 19th c., signed John Needles, Baltimore, paired scroll crest, lyre supports enclosing a case fitted with vertical compartments, the base having a shelf and drawer, scroll feet, height 33 1/2 in., width 22 in., depth 13 1/2 in.

  • Notes: Note: John Needles (active in Baltimore from 1810 until 1853) initially made furniture in the Hepplewhite and Sheraton modes and later incorporated "Grecian" designs as seen in this music cabinet. A cabinet very similar to that offered here is part of the furnishings of the music room of a c. 1818 Baltimore house designed by Robert Mills on Waterloo Row. Reference: Cooper.
