An American Coin Silver Cake Basket, Whittemore & Blair (Edwin Whittemore and Daniel Blair), New Orleans, c. 1838-40, retailer, marked under bowl "WHITTEMORE & BLAIR" in rectangle double struck, eagle in a circle and male bust facing right in an oval, plain circular bowl with lobed flared sides, the scalloped rim with applied band of stylized drops and foliage, raised on a stepped circular base, swing handle, height 11 in., diameter 12 in., weight 38.05 troy ozs.
