An American Coin Silver Presentation Cup, with pseudo-hallmarks, c. 1850, inscribed 'To Volunteer Southron by WH Johnson 1857', with repousse branches enclosing inscription, scroll handle and beaded rim and foot, height 4.625in., weight approx. 4 troy ozs. Note: The Volunteer Southron was the oldest volunteer militia in Vicksburg, established in 1853. It became part of the 21st Mississippi Infantry Regiment in 1861 and fought in more than a dozen major battles over the course of the Civil War.
