An American Coin Silver Tea and Coffee Service, c. 1860, by Gorham and Company, Providence, R.I., monogrammed " E.G.B.", consisting of coffee pot, tea pot, covered sugar, creamer and waste bowl, Classical shape with shield & swag engraving, raised Greek key bands, approximately.77 troy ounces. Presentation engraving on coffee pot, "Presented to Brigadier General Edward Griffen Beckwith, U.S.A. while in command of New Orleans and the Defenses of the Gulf by the officers serving under him. 1864". E8000-10000 Note: Beckwith was educated at the United States Military Academy at West Point, and served in the Mexican War and in the Indian "troubles" in the Western territories. he served as Chief of Commissariat for the Department of the Gulf, headquartered in New Orleans, from December 1862 to July 1865
