An American Federal Inlaid Mahogany Card Table, c. 1790-1800, Philadelphia, folding hinged kidney-shaped and serpentine top, apron with string inlay forming oval panels and center square panel, the pilasters with string inlay defining shaped panels with pendant tassels, on square tapering legs with graduated bellflowers and drops height 30in., width 36in., depth 17.5in. E3000-5000 Note: A pair of related card tables with pictorial inlay are found in the Diplomatic Reception Rooms, Department of State, and illustrated in Treasures of State, pg. 199 A related but less elaborate example than the table presently offered is part of the Mabel Brandy Garvan Collection, Yale University Art Gallery. The shape of this games table is rare outside Philadelphia, and is listed in the 1811 Philadelphia Cabinetmakers' price book.
