An American Innovative Cast and Wrought Iron Swivel Seat Office Chair c. 1850-1858, stenciled "American Chair Co., Troy, N.Y.", the balloon back with padded arms on pierced acanthine supports, the round seat on a wooden base, the swivel support with steel banding and four outswept legs ending in casters, with old red velvet upholstery. E800-1200 Note: Best known for its reclining seats for railroad cars, the American Chair Co.(1829-1858) also made various innovative chair models for domestic use, using steel springs for support and decoration. A chair similar to the example can be found in the collection at the New York State Museum.
