An American Late Classical Mahogany Work Table, early 19th c., bears a broadside label of "Meeks and Sons Manufactory, Cabinet Furniture, 43 & 45 Broad Street, New York" in the center compartment of fitted interior, the banded top lifts up to a finely fitted interior, two drawers, waisted standard, incurvate plinth, bold scrolled feet, casters, height 32 1/2 in., width 24 1/2 in., depth 20 3/4 in. Note: A rare form in the known output by the Meeks firm, this work table has legs that scroll above the plane of the plinth in the same manner as those pictured in the well-known Joseph Meeks & Sons broadside illustrated in Cooper, Classical Taste in America 1800-1840, p. 211, pl. 168.
