Description:

An American Late Federal Cherrywood and Tiger Maple Jackson Press, c. 1830, raised gallery back, two drawers over doors flanked by engaged columns, bulbous feet, cupboard interior with scalloped shelves, height 54 1/2 in., width 48 in., depth 23 in. Note: Derived from the traditionally larger sideboard, this Southern chest form known as the "Jackson Press", was versatile in its use for dining rooms and kitchens. Most closely associated with Tennessee cabinetmakers and named for local hero Andrew Jackson, the Jackson Press was common in the vicinity of Jackson's home: Davidson County, Montgomery County, and Wilson County, Tennessee.
