Lot 154
Description:
An American Leaded Glass and Patinated Bronze Six-Light Chandelier, early 20th c., of Renaissance inspiration, probably Duffner & Kimberly, New York, six panel ovoid body with black fleur-de-lis on a gold ground, the bronze frame with strapwork cartouches, long chain with strapwork links, C-scroll arms, electrified, height to chain 31 1/2 in., diameter 30 1/4 in.
- Notes: Note: One of the leading leaded glass lighting designers of the early 20th century, Duffner & Kimberly competed directly and successfully with such firms as Tiffany Studios, Pairpoint and Handel. While the company's artistic output was not as progressive as Tiffany Studios, Duffner & Kimberly's excellent craftsmanship and niche production of historical styles such as Louis XIV, Roman, or Renaissance, as exemplified here, placed them on a par with leading contemporary design firms. The fine workmanship and well-molded strapwork as demonstrated in the present lot relate closely aesthetic designs of Duffner & Kimberly. Furthermore, the bowl's three interior bronze bulb fixtures are marked as "Bryant/ Pat'd Nov. 26, 1907", a date which correlates with Duffner & Kimberly's short production period of 1905-1913.
