E4000-6000 Note: Following the fashion for ebonized examples in the late 18th c. taste from Napoleon III France, New York cabinet makers such as Herter Brothers, Kimbel and Cabus, and most notably Leon Marcotte produced Louis XVI forms with Renaissance Revival alterations such as that seen in lot 473. Reference: An ebonized cherry library table attributed to Leon Marcotte is conserved by the Metropolitan Musuem of Art. See Davidson and Stillinger, The American Wing, p. 177, fig 273.
