Description:
An American Mahogany Armoire, late 18th/early 19th c., Louisiana, having a later molded cornice above the pair of doors with typical brass fiche hinges; the interior fitted with three shelves and a medial belt of drawers which have been modified and are contained within a later frame; the whole raised on cabriole legs centering a scrolled deep skirt, poplar, cherrywood and pine secondary woods, with restorations, height 83 in., width 51 1/2 in., depth 20 3/4 in.
- Provenance: Provenance: Descended in the family of the esteemed collector Claire Chalaron, a client of the early Louisiana antiquarian Juanita Elfert.~ Note: The flush panels and door stiles, the tiered scalloping of the cornice and the slight hoof terminating the cabriole leg on this armoire are very similar to elements on a walnut and cypress armoire signed "Glapion" from the Smith collection illustrated in Poesch, Early Furniture of Louisiana, p. 18-19, figs. 7-7a.
