An American Marble Bust of a Woman, 19th c., the foliate-hemmed shift draped by a cloak, the truncation decorated with a complete circle of acanthus leaves, the hair loosely bound with pearls on a conforming socle base, height 28 1/2 in., width 19 in., depth 9 1/2 in.
PLEASE NOTE: Most probably an allegorical portrait, the figure is a striking likeness of Jefferson Davis' wife, Varina Banks Howell Davis (May 7, 1826-October 16, 1906).
