Description:

An American Modern Gothic Carved and Incised Walnut Bureau, late 19th c., related to designs by Frank Furness, stepped spindled gallery with pyramid finials over a slanted cabinet lid, fitted interior, "Minton" tile frieze, three graduated drawers, the center an escritoire drawer, over a pair of doors, dentil plinth, outswept feet, retaining original brasses, height 71 1/2 in., width 36 in., depth 36 in.

  • Notes: Note: The finely incised decoration within framing in the Eastlake manner on the drawers of this chest recalls that on a maple nightstand by Daniel Pabst in the Philadelphia Museum of Art; The canted feet and contrasting tile frieze on this chest are similar to those on a walnut sideboard by Isaac Scott of Chicago conserved by the Chicago Architecture Foundation.
