An American Neo-Grec Ebonized and Gilt-Incised Armchair, late 19th c., George Hunzinger, New York, tubular bentwood crest, incurvate arms interspersed with disc turnings, rectangular padded back, rounded seat, turned legs, diagonal stretchers, retaining the original finish, height 32 1/2 in.
- Notes: Note: The diagonal stiles running from the arm terminals to the front feet of this chair are structural elements that George Hunzinger patented in 1869 This lot is identical to two known Hunzinger chairs, one in the collection of David Ehrlij and the other in a c. 1885 photograph of the Marcus Ward house, Newark conserved by the Newark Museum.
