An American or English Gilt Lacquered Bronze Sinumbra Lamp, 19th c., floral and foliate standard, flared base with applied acanthus, period cut and etched glass shade, prism hung, electrified, overall height 35 1/4 in. Note : The foliate decoration in this example relates to an advertisement for the British firm Messenger & Sons. In many cases makers in major American centers, such as New York and Philadelphia, incorporated designs from such advertisements in their own products.
