Description:

An American Plaster Bust of Daniel Webster, mid-19th c., after Shobal Val Clevenger (American, 1812-1843), the classically draped figure of the U.S. Senator and 14th Secretary of State depicted with the distinctive Caesarean haircut, on a circular socle, height 29 in., width 18 in., depth 11 in. ?

  • Notes: Note: He eventually moved to New York where he received commissions to create sculptures of such luminaries as Henry Clay, Washington Allston, and Daniel Webster.
Clevenger's bust of Webster, as seen here, is considered the truest likeness and was used by the U.S. Post Office on its stamp honoring the great statesman.
